LOYALTY SHIFT: Popular TV Shows That Went Comedy Nights With Kapil Way
Kapil Sharma's much-loved show Comedy Nights With Kapil will wind up on Colors in the first week of January. The stand-up comedian is trying to strike a deal with Star Plus for the next instalment of the show (Kapil Sharma to take Comedy Nights From Colors To Star, December 20). A quick rewind and you'll notice that this isn't the first example.

Take a look at other popular shows that switched channels over various reasons.

Kaun Banega Crorepati

Amitabh Bachchan's ever popular show began on Star Plus in 2000. Big B coming on the small screen - it was the perfect recipe for success. Needless to say, it became the most popular show on television then.
Season 3 saw Shah Rukh Khan taking Big B's place as the host. Interestingly, the show saw a dip in the TRPs that year.
Move to Season 4 and it was back to the former host, with a slight change - it was on a new channel. KBC shifted hands from Star to Sony in 2010.

Bigg Boss

The Indian version of UK's popular show Big Brother began in 2006 on Sony. Season 1 was hosted by Arshad Warsi.
Cut to Season 2 - the show moved to Colors. Reason? Going by the success story of Big Brother, Colors knew that its Indian version too would be a big hit. So the channel was prompt in bagging the rights of Season 2. And boy, has it turned out to be a wise move!
Of course, getting Salman Khan as the show's host from 2010 onwards has been another smart decision.

Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa

Another instance of Colors edging out Sony.
If UK has Strictly Come Dancing, India has Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. The show began on Sony in 2006. While the show did grab eyeballs during the first 4 seasons, the channel reportedly wanted to focus on fiction shows then.
On the other hand, Colors, which was already enjoying a winner in Bigg Boss, wanted to have a dance-based reality show under its umbrella. So come 2012, Colors bagged Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa as well.

Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi

Sony launched Fear Factor India in 2006 on a small scale - it was hosted by Mukul Dev. However, given the channel's decision to concentrate on fictional shows, Sony gave up the rights of this adventure show to Colors.
The series was re-launched on Colors in 2008 as Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi. Even better, the channel decided to go the whole hog with this show. What does that mean? The first two seasons had Bollywood's own khiladi Akshay Kumar as the host. Since then, many Bollywood stars have played hosts - the upcoming season will see Arjun Kapoor take on the mantle.

Box Cricket League

Touted as India's first celebrity sports reality show, Box Cricket League was launched with a lot of hoopla on Sony last year. Too bad, the TRPs weren't as impressive.
After Season 1, the broadcaster and Ekta Kapoor (the show producer) didn't see eye-to-eye on the show's future. So Ekta hopped on to the next best option - Colors.
And you know Ekta, she'll always go the extra mile for her shows. The TV czarina has brought in a lot of changes to the second season to ensure higher TRPs - right from roping in Sunny Leone to changing the time slot.
